SEAKNOT

Severe Accident Research and Knowledge Management for light-water reactors

A European Project

About

SEAKNOT is a 48-month project funded by the European Union and coordinated by the Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), a Spanish public research institution.

Bringing together 17 partners from 10 European countries, the SEAKNOT project aims to build a roadmap for Severe Accident (SA) research for the next decade to efficiently reduce safety uncertainties based on the identification of safety knowledge gaps, existing capabilities, and upcoming nuclear technology innovation including Small Modular Light Water Reactors (SMLWRs) and near-term Accident Tolerant Fuels (ATFs). This roadmap will also serve to strengthen the background and skills of the workforce who will be responsible for implementing such a research agenda.

Objectives

Carry out a sound and critical analysis of the current knowledge on SAs, identify the future experimental research needs required to support and further optimise SA mitigation measures, strengthen the background and skills of young generations in the field.

Expected Impacts

Aiming to make Europe a leader in SA research, SEAKNOT will produce a roadmap for SA research in the coming decade and beyond.

Results

All of the public deliverables produced within the SEAKNOT project will be made available on this website.
